🌀 Foam Rolling — Miracle Fix or Just Hype? Foam r 🌀 Foam Rolling — Miracle Fix or Just Hype?

Foam rolling has been hyped for years — from loosening “tight” muscles to boosting recovery and performance. But what does the science actually say? 👀

Here’s what we know:

💡 Foam rolling doesn’t physically “break up” knots or fascia.
The pressure just isn’t strong enough to cause structural changes in muscle tissue.

✨ What it can do:

Improve short-term flexibility and joint range of motion (though effects last ~10 mins).

Help reduce feelings of muscle soreness after exercise.

Enhance relaxation and pain tolerance — thanks to your nervous system, not mechanical changes.

🏃‍♀️ Performance boost?
Rolling before training might help elite athletes with sprint or power output, but the difference is tiny for most people.

🩵 Recovery benefits?
Yes — rolling after workouts can make you feel better and recover faster by reducing DOMS (delayed muscle soreness).

📏 Best practice:
✅ 3–5 sets of 20–30 seconds per muscle
✅ 3–5 times per week for lasting benefits

In short — foam rolling can be a great tool for flexibility and recovery, but it’s not a magic fix. Think of it as a nervous system “reset,” not a muscle “repair.”

💬 Do you foam roll regularly? Have you noticed a difference in your recovery?

💪 Let’s Talk Tendons! Ever wondered how tendons d 💪 Let’s Talk Tendons!

Ever wondered how tendons differ from muscles or ligaments?
Think of tendons as strong, flexible cords — like ropes — that connect your muscles to your bones, helping you move, jump, and absorb impact.

🧠 Here’s a quick breakdown:

Tendons connect muscles to bone

Ligaments connect bone to bone (for stability)

Muscles create movement

Tendons act like shock absorbers and are made from tough collagen fibres — but with less blood supply, meaning they can take longer to heal.

🔥 Common Tendon Injuries:

Tendonitis (inflammation and pain)

Tendinosis (chronic thickening or scarring)

Tenosynovitis (Like De Quervain's syndrome or “Mother’s thumb”)

Tendon tears or ruptures

Calcific enthesitis (bony spurs at the attachment point)

💡 Keep your tendons strong by:
✅ Staying active with varied movement
✅ Warming up before and stretching after exercise
✅ Getting enough rest and sleep
✅ Wearing supportive shoes
🚭 And yes… avoid smoking — it slows healing!

If you’re dealing with ongoing tendon pain, our Physiotherapists can help with a tailored plan that includes exercise, massage, dry needling, taping and shockwave therapy.

📲 Book online or call 9756 7424 today to get your tendons feeling their best!

🏃‍♀️ Understanding Hip Pain The hip is a complex 🏃‍♀️ Understanding Hip Pain

The hip is a complex ball-and-socket joint designed for movement, stability, and absorbing force during daily and sporting activities. It’s surrounded by layers of muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bursa — all working together to keep you moving smoothly.

When the hip becomes stiff or muscles lose strength and control, pain can develop. Poor movement patterns or overload can also place extra strain on the joint and surrounding tissues.

🔹 Common causes of hip pain include:
• Hip impingement (FAI)
• Bursitis
• Osteoarthritis
• Labral tears
• Gluteal or adductor tendinopathy
• Referred pain from the back or SIJ
• Hip flexor or hamstring strains
• Pubic bone stress injury (osteitis pubis)

💡 How Physiotherapy Can Help
A detailed assessment helps identify the cause of your pain — looking at range of motion, muscle control, strength, and joint mobility.

Your physio will create a personalised treatment plan which may include:
✅ Joint mobilisation & soft tissue release
✅ Shockwave Therapy or Dry needling & stretching
✅ Gluteal and hip stabilisation exercises
✅ Education on posture, load, and home care

The goal: restore movement, build strength, and get you back to doing what you love — pain free.
